The author was allowed to name the dinosaur after the creature was discovered as its own species of ankylosaur. The Crichtonsaurus was a real-life dinosaur named after Michael Crichton, the author of the Jurassic Park novels. The creature is named after legendary wildlife documentarian Sir David Attenborough, the brother of Richard Attenborough, who is otherwise known as John Hammond.
